Our Year 9 Learning and Leadership Centre is a truly special learning environment, the envy of many other schools in Altona and in Victoria. We have created these opportunities for our Year 9 students because as the leaders of our school, we look to them for leadership and role modelling in our school. Our Year 9 Learning and Leadership Centre is a purpose-built learning facility solely for our Year 9 students. Again, this is quite unique to Altona P-9 College.
In our Year 9 Learning and Leadership Centre we maintain our focus on literacy and numeracy, but provide a very broad range of specialist and community learning opportunities for students. We value the importance of Science and offer this as a stand alone subject in Year 9 that builds on the grounding the students recieve throughout their time in the Middle Years.
Our Year 9 students are the leaders of our school. In this, their final year at our school they will reach out to their community with negotiated and structured learning opportunities, provide leadership to our younger students through our buddy program and work with key leadership staff to begin to plan their preferred pathway for senior schooling.
The student diary is still a key method of communication between home and school however much of student/teacher/parent communication is completed by email and on classroom blogs.

Unquestionable research from around the world tells us that in Year 9 students, who can become disengaged with traditional schooling, require genuine leadership opportunities as well as moving schooling beyond the classroom and into the wider world. This is what we aim to do for your son/daughter at Altona College. As with most students in secondary schools, Year 9-10 is a major transition point for our students too.
